Dermaplaning

Exfoliating the Epidermis – Safe Procedure With Great Results

At Renew we are experts on the skin and we know that sometimes the simplest and safest methods are the best for restoring youthful skin. Dermaplaning exfoliates the skin by removing old dead skin on your epidermis by removing this old skin it reveals the younger more radiant skin underneath.

The process of dermaplaning removes all the oils and dirt on the outer sking by shaving it off.  This treatment of shaving the skin allows for the removal on the fine hairs that help trap these impurities giving you a more youthful, healthier appearance.

Many clients ask what can I expect with Dermaplaning?

The answer is a more youthful, smooth appearance of the skin. You will see a reduction in any scarring that may be present as well as reduction in fine lines and smooth out wrinkles. With dermaplaning it also makes the skin more receptive to creams and products for the skin because now the old dead skin has been removed.

Clients of Renew will also benefit from Dermaplaning who are having other procedures we use it many times to increase the overall effectiveness of Laser Hair Removal, Chemical Peels and Facials we have found that the effectiveness of these procedures is greatly increased by Dermaplaning the skin first. We also see a better outcome when combined with Dermaplaning.

Questions about Dermaplaning

How is this treatment performed?

It is safely performed by using a sterile surgical blade called dermatome. The dermatome is carefully stroked over the skin in even motions while holding the area of the skin taut.

Is this Treatment Safe?

This treatment is extremely safe, painlessly removes dry, dead surface skin to reveal new, healthy skin cells. It poses no serious side effects and patients can resume normal activities immediately following treatment.

If you are ‘blading” the skin, won’t the hairs on the face grow back thicker?

No.  It is physiologically not possible for your vellous hair on your face to grow back thicker.  Vellous (tiny translucent blonde hair) when cut or removed will grow back the same.  The structure of the hair does not become damaged, therefore it is impossible to alter.

What areas of the skin can be treated?

Dermaplaning is only performed on the face. We do not blade the nose, eye lids, neck or chest.  We only recommend this treatment on the face only.

How often is this procedure performed?

Dermaplaning can be performed every 3 – 4 weeks (or once a month), which coincides with the normal skin cycle of approximately 30 days.  It is not recommended treating the skin more often than that.

How long does it take?

This is a quick and easy procedure usually done in less than an hour.
