Eye Lid Lift

As people get older their facial skin begins to lose its young, taut look. This loss of elasticity can cause one’s eyes to appear loose and baggy. If you feel as though your eyelids have too droopy a look to them, or if you are generally unhappy with the aesthetics of your eyes, then Renew and Dr. Cho can help you rejuvenate your appearance. We have dedicated ourselves to helping patients achieve their facial cosmetic goals, and have the proper modern procedures to give you the look you desire.

Procedure Description

Eyelid surgery or more common known as a Eyelid Lift is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The process is relatively noninvasive and patients typically see a full recovery after a few weeks. During a blepharoplasty operation, incisions are made where the natural crease should be in the upper lids and below the lash line in the lower lids. This helps mask scarring that may result from the procedure. After the incisions have been made, excess fat and skin are removed.
If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through an incision inside the lower lids with no external incision or scar (transconjunctival blepharoplasty).

Recuperation and Healing

Typically, after an eyelid rejuvenation procedure, all sutures are removed within 7-10 days. Patients will commonly experience some initial mild discomfort, which can easily be controlled through oral medication. Post-operative bruising, swelling, and sensitivity to light will last for at least a week or two. Patients are asked to wear sun protection (sunglasses and sunscreen) for several weeks after the procedure.
Patients should avoid the use of makeup around the eyes until after the sutures are removed. Contact lenses can be worn when comfortable (usually within 3-7 days).

Intended Results

Blepharoplasty is a procedure most commonly utilized by people who desire a more youthful and rested appearance of the eyes. This procedure may also widen one’s visual fields if excessive upper lid skin has partially blocked his or her vision. Eyelid operations are not used to remove or erase wrinkle lines. They will, however, soften wrinkle lines.

Other Options

There are additional procedures that can enhance the results of eyelid surgery. These include noninvasive lift, forehead lift, face lift, chemical peel, or laser skin resurfacing. Patients may also get lower eyelid lifts if they are unhappy with the excess skin present underneath their eyes.

Note
The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. Patients should realize that all surgical procedures have some degree of risk and minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications resulting from surgery are rare.
